Ch.
39: Research with my Disciple.
The Peaceful Days of a Magecraft Artisan

Hati, Lotte, and I spent the next few days doing our research.

It was nice to not be on a deadline or tight schedule.

On days with good weather, I decided to eat lunch with Hati outside the Research lab.

Lotte will usually come see us in the afternoon.

And on days when Lotte visits us around lunchtime, she would eat with us.
Occasionally, my sister dropped by as well.

Lunch today was just Hati and myself.

Werner: “Well now.
It’s nice to just be able to relax and do things at our own pace.”

Hati: “! Hati thinks my Lord is working very hard!”

Werner: “Well, not really.” These days were incredibly peaceful, and I was just taking my time with everything I did.

When Lotte came, I had her make the Water-Warming Magecraft Artifact.

And I continued developing the Bread-Baking Magecraft Artifact at a slow and steady pace.

I read books about how they make bread, and as I changed the structure of the Artifact, I began being very selective on the materials I was using.

Every aspect of this job was delightfully fun.

Hati: “My Lord, you said you would just leave your disciple to learn on their own, but you have been teaching her very carefully.”

Werner: “That is true now that you mention it.”

It might be because I actually like teaching.

Werner: “Well, once we get busy, I’ll have to leave her to learn on her own.”

Hati: “Is that so~.
But my Lord is already busy teaching Lotte and making Magecraft Artifacts~”

Werner: “Not really.
I’m able to take my time waking up in the morning.” Hati: “I see~”

Werner: “Compared to when I was at the Academy, it’s a much more pleasant style of living.
The breakfast is good too.”

Hati: “The bread is delicious!”

And I am not waking up at the break of dawn.

I let myself wake up slowly, and with Hati, if the timing aligns, I’ll have breakfast with my sister.

Breakfast was not just the dried, ration bread that I would eat at the Mages Academy.

I would have bread with bacon and eggs and tea on the side.

Werner: “Lunch is delicious bread with tea and soup under the sun.
And on top of that, we can take our time with our food.”

On days with great weather, we would just lounge around in the yard as we eat.

Though it’s still winter, it still feels good to be outside.

This would have been impossible when I was working at the Academy.

Hati: “Is that so~ Hati is also happy to be able to eat so much delicious food.”

Werner: “Is that right.” And I suddenly recalled about the Head of Magecraft Science Research and the Academy President.

I’m certain that both of them would still be playing politics at the Academy.

I wonder if they’re having any difficulties with all the Magecraft Tools that were still in development.

Since I learned all my principles directly from Professor Kay, I’m sure that deciphering the theories will not be an easy task.

But if they have difficulty, all the better.

At the very least, they will not be able to live a slow and peaceful life doing what they want to do everyday as I am.

Werner: “Well, they can fuss as much as they want at the Academy.”

Now, it has nothing to do with me.

As a week of peaceful days passed, it happened upon that night.

The Bread-Making Magecraft Artifact was getting close to completion, and I was continuing the development without sleeping.

Hati: “My Lord, will you not sleep?” Werner: “It’s very close to completion, so my hands won’t stop working.”

Hati: “I see~”

By the time I was done with the Bread-Making Magecraft Artifact, he calendar date had changed.

Hati was fast asleep comfortably on my lap.

Lotte was helping me a few hours before.

But since Lotte is still a child, I cannot have her stay up all night.

I had to go to the Marquis’ mansion to rest.

Werner: “Okay, let’s bake some bread then, shall we?” I stuffed the Bread-Making Magecraft Artifact with ingredients and activated it.

Now, I just have to leave it alone.

If everything goes according to plan, in a few hours, we should have delicious bread in the morning.

Werner: “I wonder if this will actually make decent bread…..”

Depending on how well my Artifact was built, the quality of our breakfast will change.

If the Magecraft Artifact goes well, then I need to find the optimal flour for the Artifact.

Werner: “Now then, I should go to bed.”

I held Hati in my arms as I carried her to the bed.

As I was about to lay next to Hatiーー

Werner: “Hm?” Someone was trying to break into the Barrier.

They were trying to force the front door open.
