Visten trembled when that very little girl rubbed Ysildus’ stomach very naturally, even scratching his back.
Such a Ysildus was never this easy matter.
Didn’t they have a hard time until he ran away after biting the servant’s hands? 

He never did any major accidents as a young wolf, but it was true that he was out of control.
However, they couldn’t do anything about the only heir of the Grand Duchy, both in name and reality. But, but!

“It’s pretty! Nnng, the puppy is really pretty.
Noona also knew that the puppy’s adorable!”

“Kiing…… Arf! Arf!”

It was never the wolf they knew, looking at that scene, flattering people like that.
Visten looked at the knights with sharp eyes. 

“Can you agree with yourself when you say you have no doubts witnessing that kind of scene?”

Young Master Ysildus wasn’t the type of person to follow anyone.”

“That’s what I heard, but why would a little girl like her give some kind of drugs to Young Master Ysildus?”

That’s true.
The knights nodded in agreement.
It was solely thanks to the fact that the little girl and Ysildus looked exactly like an owner with her cute puppy.
There doesn’t seem to be any malice of any sort.
Still, Visten couldn’t erase his doubts and shook his head. 

“Bring that girl together with that puppy to the castle.
But before that, thoroughly search that little girl’s house and properly investigate whether there was something suspicious about her.
Do you understand?”

“Yes, lieutenant.”

“But what should we do about the villagers?”

Visten sighed.
In fact, it was a top-secret of the Grand Duchy – that the blood of the Grand Duke who supports the country had mixed blood of that wolf.
Most of the people living in the Thersion Castle, whether they were dark or pale or almost human, had a little drop of the wolf’s blood.
This truth would undoubtedly be the biggest disappointment of the country. 

The Grand Duke has been praised as a hero of the Empire from generation to generation.
Therefore in order to conceal that secret, the Grand Duke only selected those who worked in the castle, only the ones within their territory.
So, according to the treaty with the Imperial Family, it was only right to annihilate all the villagers who saw the secret of the Grand Duchy.
However, 

‘Ah, a kid and a dog? Are you talking about the kid who took home an abandoned dog a while ago? She was so smart!’ 

‘A dog? I’ve never seen such a gentle and cute puppy.
But it was all thanks to that kid’s devotion.
Though I can’t remember her name….’ 

‘Are you talking about that pretty kid with a white puppy? She’s so smart.’

The market people remembered that girl more than Ysildus.

A clever and young girl who works in an inn.
No one seemed to care even if Ysildus was to disappear.
Even pretending to be a distant relative of the little girl and taking her with Ysildus to the Grand Duke’s mansion wouldn’t be unreasonable. 

If Ysildus made a major accident such as biting a person in the village, he would’ve made a decision right away….
But the instinct and aggression that the wolf showed in the mansion were nowhere to be seen. 

“I think it will be fine.
We will only take that child and Young Master Ysildus back home.”

“Yes, lieutenant.”

This was the plot of the first novel Alexa twisted.
No one could have guessed how this would affect the novel.

‘Oh, why are you just standing here, goggling?’

Alexa pursed her lips.
After she discovered the Grand Duke’s knights, she diligently and conspicuously walked the dog three times that wasn’t on her schedule.
Three walks a day, but the dog was only excited. 

“Hoo, Hoo.
Co-come and a-ask me.”

Alexa, who began to run out of stamina, gasped and threw the ball of yarn. 

“Arf!”

Leaving the dog behind, Alexa looked at the man who came with the knights.
He was drinking tea at a cafe near the hill, pretending not to pay attention to where the dog and Alexa were playing.
well, trying to pretend but, they were just being obvious. 

Those men were wearing luxurious clothes with their swords….
What’s more, the man in the middle was wearing an expensive monocle. 

(T/N: A monocle is a one-sided eyeglass.) 

‘Is that Baron Visten?’

That man was the person who remained as the Grand Duke’s assistant until now, but he would be promoted for the rank of a Count and assume the General Assistant post of the Grand Duke in a few years.
That was also the man who ordered to annihilate this whole village.

Alexa gulped.
She didn’t know what he was thinking now, but she just wanted to avoid that. 

Visten’s order was probably because the dog in the original novel bit some villagers and stole food from the market, so everyone remembered the dog.
But this time, Alexa took the puppy and raised him.
The puppy harmed no one and, he will be remembered simply as an abandoned ordinary dog. 

She was surprised that they came sooner than she initially thought.
They came when Alexa was still considering many things. 

“Arf! Arf! Woof!”

The dog then came to her, showed her the yarn, and showed aggression, blocking Alexa’s view and threatening someone – yes, threatening a certain someone.
But rather than threatening, it was close to being ‘my cute little puppy!’

Visten was already approaching them when Alexa woke up from her reverie. 

Ha, is that little thing doing that to protect me? 

Alexa was impressed. 

Alright, you can have two snacks today! 

“It’s alright, sit down.”

The puppy whined when he heard Alexa, but sat down on his buttocks obediently after hovering several times in front of her.
However, his lax posture made it clear that he would attack the man any time. 

“That’s… a very cute puppy.”

“That’s right.
He eats well, listened well, and I just don’t know why he is so cute.”

Alexa smiled slyly.

“But Mister, who are you? I think this is the first time I’ve seen you in this village.”

She imitated a teenager’s reaction when meeting an unknown adult for the first time.
Visten smiled awkwardly and kneeled down to meet Alexa’s eye level. 

“Actually, I am the original owner of that dog…”

“How can I believe you?” Alexa asked.

She had already shown him how she loved the dog, but it would be rather strange if she believed him right away. 

“Um… I was there since that puppy was born.
Ah, I have a picture!”

Visten took out the picture he always carried around with him just in case.
The photo was taken after the puppy was born.
The magic-powered camera was expensive as it is, but wasn’t it from the Grand Duke? This was nothing. 

“Now, look at it.
Isn’t this the same dog?”

“Grrrrrr!”

Visten was more confident now when he showed her the picture.
He smiled brightly when he saw the puppy glaring at him.
Since he was an adult, the beast would surely show hostility. 

Alexa pretended to stare at the picture whether it was really Visten or not.
After all, she already knew that it was Visten and the puppy…. 

“Hmm… then I’ll believe you,” Alexa said sarcastically.

“That’s right.
So, aren’t I the owner of that dog?”

Alexa blinked intentionally.

“And so?”

Alexa’s heart beat erratically, not knowing how Visten would reply to her.
If it were like in the original story, he would eitiher annihilate all the villagers and Alexa, leave Alexa behind and take the dog, or take both Alexa and the dog.
But Alexa knew very well that Visten might not take her. 

‘Please don’t choose the first one.’

‘Please don’t be the first.’

In order to avoid that, Alexa would list out all the things she had so gee for the dog in front of Visten. 

“I have to take my dog, but I can’t take care of it the way you do.”

“Then don’t take him,” Alexa feigned innocence and said. 

“Then my son will be very sad.
So, dear…”

“Please call me Alexa.”

“Alright, Alexa,” Visten slightly laughed and said, “Why don’t you go with me? There are good clothes and food there.”

Gotcha! She felt like running around in happiness, but she had to hold it in.
However, accepting it right away would make her a bit untrustworthy, so….. 

“Ummm…but, I love working in the inn.”

“At the inn? Ah, of course, I will pay you a good amount of money if you take good care of the puppy.
The money you are receiving now….”

“Money?”

Alexa blinked her eyes.
She didn’t expect something like this but… it seemed like they were about to give her pay. 

“I’ll pay you a hundred times of it.
But do you know 100? Just add two more circles to the money you are receiving now.”

“I know what 100x is.”

Alexa said as she bent over and picked up the puppy.
She was pretending to be calm, but she was shouting hooray inside of her with her arms outstretched.
As long as she can collect enough money that will be good enough for two years while the puppy becomes an adult, she can buy a mansion with a garden in the village. 

‘Hurray!!! Long live the puppy!!’

Saving a life to have enough money.
This, this is…. 

‘You’ll have five snacks today!’

It was worth it.

Alexa pretended to be worried, then nodded.

“Alright, I will go with you.”
