Chapter 5

Alexa spread her fingers and whispered in a very low voice.

“There’s nothing wrong with our village, right?”

“Hmm?”

Her words came out after a lot of deliberation on how to say it without Visten getting suspicious about her.
Alexa blinked to appear as naïve as possible.

“Those misters, those misters over there.
I’m saying this because you’ve brought a lot of scary-looking misters with you.
Besides, I’ve seen those misters spying on our village for days already.”

Alexa said in a terrified voice.
Fortunately, Visten didn’t seem to be suspicious of Alexa.

“About that….”

Visten blurted out.
Sharp and quick-witted – that was Visten’s assessment of Alexa.

“It’s… not like that.
What do you mean spying? Besides, what are we gonna do in such a peaceful town?”

It wasn’t like the dog had shown its instincts.
Visten has concluded his self-justification.

“What a relief.”

Alexa pretended to take a deep breath, then she smiled.

“Please take good care of me, Mister!”

“…You don’t need to ask me.”

“Growl…….”

The dog growled as if showing his dislike towards Visten.

“No, Happy.
He’s a good mister.
Be nice to him.”

“…… Happy……?”

“Yes, Happy! That’s this puppy’s name.”

Alexa smiled with a blank expression on her face.
On the other hand, Visten wanted to cry when Ysildus was called Happy. What a dignified name for the little master of the Grand Duchy!

Visten bit his lips.

“New – no.
It seems like it would be better for me to tell you its original name.”

“Original name?”

Alexa tilted her head.
It would be impossible for Visten to reveal Ysildus’ real name, so he came up with a suitable name.

“Ysiranda, Ysu.”

(T/N: This is taken from Ysildus’ name in the raw which is 이실더스.
The first and last syllable reads as ‘Ysu’ so I will go with Ysu.
Hope you don’t mind heehee )

“Ysu? Wow, I think that name is prettier.”

But still, Alexa couldn’t call him Happy forever, so she nodded lightly.
And that was how Alexa and Visten’s contract was concluded.

Excitement was clear in Alexa’s footsteps.

“Arf?”

You did a really good job, Ysu.
We made it out!

Knowing Alexa’s joy, Ysu rubbed his face against her cheek.

This cute child!!

As Alexa had wished, the two of them arrived safely at the territory of Grand Duke Thersion.

Visten briefly explained to Alexa about the dog’s identity while they were riding the carriage.
Actually, it wasn’t that much since she already knew it.
What she had to watch out for was the serious threat Visten added.

He didn’t trust Alexa.
He was watching her.
If she divulges the secrets of Thersion, then he will kill her like pressing a fly to death.

‘That would be easy, Alexa.
You must take the Thersion’s secret to your grave.
But Alexa, now that you know, what should you do?’

That’s what I’m talking about mister!

She had goosebumps when she heard that.
Even though Ysildus was strangely showing his dislike towards Visten as if he was going to protect her.

‘Do your best in keeping our secret.
And I don’t think your safety is in my best interest.’

Was it a very noble and gentle threat? Alexa promised to never speak out.

‘I know… I know you meant it.’

Weren’t they the Dark Grand Duke’s men? They were the people who view humans as trivial as they are of the beast race.

Alexa took a deep breath and got down the carriage.
There was a huge ivory castle, and that was the fortress of the Grand Duke of Thersion.
It was a heavenly fortress and last stronghold that protected the borders.
Therefore, a sanctuary that could not be touched by anyone, even if it was the Imperial Family.
Moreover, in the past 150 years, no direct descendant was born, so it was called the unfortunate castle.
It was closed.
That was the reason why no one knew how to take care of the young wolf.

No successor was born from the Grand Duke for a long time.
Native wolves live three times as humans, but half wolves only live twice as long.
Those who raised the successors of the Grand Duke had long since passed away.
Alexa was now one step closer to this closed community.

“Kiiing…”

Alexa hugged the puppy that rubbed its moist nose against her chin, feeling worried.
The dog’s high body temperature and fluffy fur alleviated Alexa’s anxiety.

“Oh, stop!”

Alexa pulled her face away.

“Stop rubbing your moist nose to me!”

“Arf!”

Ah really, this dog. Alexa pulled the puppy away who was struggling to cling onto her.

“You won’t have snacks if you kept on being like this!”

“Arf! Kiiing!”

Their eyes widened again at Alexa after realizing that the dog knew her words and listened to her.
Alexa then hugged the calm puppy back.
Visten and the knights who were waiting to give Alexa time to explore the castle’s exterior walls were once again surprised.

“Did you hear how he whines?”

“Yes, I heard.”

Arf! Arrrrr! Kyaaaa!

They only heard his ferocious sound, but this was the first time they’ve ever heard of his whimper full of aegyo.
Visten asked them with serious eyes.

“Did anyone who followed Alexa find anything about her? Was it a drug….”

“She came home with a lot of jerky, salmon, and chicken.”

“Ah.”

Visten nodded as he understood.
He had guessed how that little girl must’ve tamed Ysildus.

“Tell the chef to prepare a bunch of similar dishes.”

“Yes, lieutenant.”

Visten nodded happily.

He had planned on sending Alexa away and giving her reasonable pay after figuring out how to take care of Ysildus.
It was forbidden to bring in civilians in a fortress-like this, but it was decided that it was inevitable in a crisis like this.
Because Ysildus can’t run away again!

It was a crisis when Ysildus ran away.
The only successor could have lost his life while wandering outside, or his identity could be discovered.
Direct wolves became ‘werewolves’ when their lives were threatened.
It would hurt people while it wasn’t in the right state of mind, in the form of a harmless and innocent child.

However, they couldn’t keep Alexa in the castle forever.
It was only right to let her go after they figured out how to deal with Ysildus.

Most of the wolves had long since lost their humanity in them as their blood became thicker.
It was even more so because they had been isolated due to the long feud with the Imperial Family.
It was also the prominent characteristic of the Grand Duchy bloody couple.
Alexa must be sent back even before the Grand Duke returns.
While Visten suppresses the other wolves inside the castle, he can’t do the same with the Grand Duke.

“Will you go inside the castle now, Alexa?”

“Yes! It’s wonderful.
It’s a really wonderful castle.”

It was a castle that boasts its great dignity that even if you tilt your head, you cannot see its highest point.

“Is this is your house?”

“Arf!”

“Do you remember where this is?”

The dog tilted its head at Alexa’s question.
He stuck his tongue out and looked at her with eyes as if he knew nothing.

“What’s the matter?”

Alexa squeezed the dog, who was struggling strangely and hugged him. Ah, this strength… ah! Alexa hurriedly pulled Visten’s sleeve.
Visten looked down at Alexa, who was waiting at the front door.

“Why?”

“Pee! Restroom! Do you have any newspaper?”

“What do you mean…”

Alexa stamped her feet as she looked around.
There were expensive marble porches and the well-maintained lawns were visible.
She thought would be very rude if she just put the dog somewhere.

“Keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…”

The puppy signaled that it was urgent, and Alexa was forced to stretch out her arms.

Yeah, I’d rather just wipe the front door!

squeak – squeak –

As if the dog had endured for a long time, the dog’s pee stretched out quite a bit – and it happened to be towards Visten.
Alexa, who had closed her eyes tightly, opened her eyes.

“….”

Visten’s face was cold as he looked down at his clothes soaked in damp yellow.

Gulp.

‘Am I going to die here?’

Saving a life in the village wasn’t something he’d like.
Alexa smiled awkwardly and stepped back.
Visten’s eyes, while he slowly raised his head, flashed sharply.

“Ha ha ha haha.
Ysu must’ve had a lot of pee.”

Without thinking of putting it down, the puppy already stretched out its shin, but who knew it would go towards him? But as if ignorant of the situation, the puppy was ready to play with Alexa’s cheeks.

“Arf! Arf!”

Yes, you felt refreshed, right?

“…… Whew.”

She heard teeth grinding from Visten.

Whoa, that’s brutal.

His gaze towards the sole heir of the Grand Duke was sharper than a blade of a knife.

Alexa hugged the whining puppy tightly.
