TL: Moonlit

When Lin Hanchuan woke up, it was already dark outside.
He found himself in an unfamiliar environment, and if it weren’t for 001, he would have thought he had time-traveled again.

The place looked like a beautiful villa, with high and spacious rooms.
Lin Hanchuan noticed a pot of lush wild roses placed on the windowsill, obviously newly transplanted with scattered soil on the edges of the flower pot.

[“Where is this?”] With 001 as his cheat tool, Lin Hanchuan had no worries.

The anxious 001 turned into a bright red dumpling: [“This is Quzhou.
The Zombie Emperor injected you with something, causing you to be unconscious for a day and night.
He brought you out of the imperial capital overnight and brought you here.”]

While Lin Hanchuan was observing his surroundings, 001 kept talking incessantly: [“Chuanchuan, what does the Zombie Emperor want to do to you? Could he be planning to use you as a reserve food supply? I told you not to be so close to the big boss, but you didn’t take precautions.
Now, there isn’t a single human here, and you’re calling out for help to no avail…”]

[“He has no ill intentions towards me.”] Lin Hanchuan interrupted 001’s words.
There were fresh fruits and milk on the bedside table, and the entire room was spotlessly cleaned, with a faint and elegant perfume sprayed in the air.
Only with careful sniffing could the scent of the perfume mask the zombie’s odor.

Perhaps Cheng Jizhou heard the movement, or maybe he was monitoring the room with some device, but shortly after Lin Hanchuan regained consciousness, Cheng Jizhou opened the door and walked in.

Upon entering, Cheng Jizhou seemed a bit unsure of himself.
He was stunned for a few seconds before casually greeting, “You’re awake.”

If it weren’t for the drastically changed environment, there wouldn’t be much difference between his current situation and when he was in the imperial capital.

Lin Hanchuan pondered for a few minutes, his mind still a bit hazy.
After struggling for a while to find his words, Cheng Jizhou could tell he was uncomfortable and stepped forward, offering the milk to his lips.
“Have some milk.”

001, furious, punched and kicked at Cheng Jizhou: [“Don’t act kind! You kidnapper!”]

The little red dumpling waved at Cheng Jizhou’s face, but he seemed completely unaware.
The scene was too comical, and Lin Hanchuan curled his lips, drinking some milk.
He asked, “Why did you take me out without my consent?”

Here it comes! Cheng Jizhou shivered all over.
He knew he had to face this question, but he couldn’t come up with an answer.

The incident in Country A was a top-secret matter, and Country A had unified its stance externally, making him appear as the father of the virus.
In essence, he did create the virus.
Emotionally, humans are social animals, and no one would willingly accept being forcibly separated from humanity and living among zombies.

Moreover… Cheng Jizhou squatted on the ground, carefully observing Lin Hanchuan’s expression from bottom to top.

This incident happened suddenly, but it was something Cheng Jizhou had been thinking about for a long time, something he had always wanted to do.

Ever since meeting Lin Hanchuan, even when he was still a child, Cheng Jizhou didn’t like it when Lin Hanchuan talked to Rong Ziping.
His attention was entirely focused on Rong Ziping.
But upon closer reflection, he realized that he even disliked people like Lu Mao and Wei Zheng.

After arriving in the imperial capital, Lin Hanchuan became busy with many things – the military, his subordinates, and he showed little concern for the whereabouts of little Cheng Jizhou, who he claimed to be his little brother.
This made Cheng Jizhou quite unhappy.

‘I said I’m his brother, does that make me his brother? I’m just a few years old, suddenly disappeared, and you don’t even worry about it? You were so good to me when I was little, holding me and kissing me, but now that I’m older, you’re distant?’

Various thoughts accumulated in his heart until the people from Country A suddenly appeared, exposing the identity of the Zombie Emperor.
Cheng Jizhou’s frustration turned into determination, and in a moment of desperation, he took this course of action.

After thinking for a while, Cheng Jizhou’s face turned cold as he said, “As you can see, Rong Ziping didn’t lie.
I am indeed the Zombie Emperor, and the people from Country A are coming to capture me.
I captured you to escape.”

“This city has completely fallen, there’s not a single living person left, only zombies.
Don’t attempt to escape.”

Looking at Cheng Jizhou still squatting beside him, with a fierce expression and listening to Cheng Jizhou’s cold and stern warning, Lin Hanchuan felt like laughing.

Should he tell this person that he should stand up fiercely to look more intimidating? Otherwise, he looks a little pitiful.
Lin Hanchuan couldn’t help but pat Cheng Jizhou’s head.
“Okay, I won’t leave.”

“If you dare to escape, I’ll turn you into a zombie… Hmm?” Cheng Jizhou’s words came to a sudden halt.
He was startled and stammered, “I-I mean, it’s best not to run.
Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of you.”

Lin Hanchuan helped Cheng Jizhou up and then walked to the window, looking outside.

Outside the villa, the garden, left untended for a long time, had become overgrown with flowers and plants, appearing disorderly and wild, showcasing a minute slice of untamed life.
As far as the eye could see, there wasn’t a single zombie in sight, but the ground stained with blood hadn’t been cleaned up yet, reminding Lin Hanchuan that they were still in the post-apocalyptic world.

“Don’t be fooled by the absence of zombies outside now.
I’ve driven them all away.
If you try to leave alone, you’ll definitely be torn apart and eaten by zombies!” Cheng Jizhou hastily warned as he saw Lin Hanchuan looking out the window.

“The scenery is nice,” Lin Hanchuan glanced back from the window and smiled, praising the view.
He rummaged through his belongings and realized that his weapons and the crystal nucleus space were taken away.

Lin Hanchuan wasn’t in a hurry, wandering around the villa, observing the situation.

Cheng Jizhou followed him closely, as if afraid that he would run away.

From Lin Hanchuan’s perspective, this villa should be one of the best in the city.
In such a pressing situation, he wondered how Cheng Jizhou managed to find such a place in such a short time and clean up all the rooms.

Although the floors and tabletops in other rooms were still dusty, the bodies and blood were all cleaned up, showing that Cheng Jizhou put a lot of thought into preparing this large “golden cage.”

Lin Hanchuan, who was usually firm and unapproachable, was experiencing being treated like a canary for the first time.
He found it both novel and amusing.

Cheng Jizhou, on the other hand, had never tried raising any animal.
The only pets he had were the small animals like rats, frogs, rabbits, and monkeys in the laboratory.
Now, he suddenly found himself taking care of a human, which made him, who was usually smart enough to disdain all living creatures, feel a bit overwhelmed.

“Do you like it?” After the tour, Cheng Jizhou’s heart seemed to start beating slightly.

“It’s not bad,” Lin Hanchuan didn’t care much whether he liked it or not.
He wasn’t demanding when it came to material conditions.
Even if it were better, he would only feel that it was just so-so, and even if it were worse, he could still manage.
He knew that Cheng Jizhou had put in the effort to tidy it up and said, “I quite like it.”

Cheng Jizhou finally felt relieved.

The tension that had been stretching in the aftermath of the apocalypse unconsciously loosened.
Lin Hanchuan’s faint smile appeared.

Caught by the charm of that faint smile, Cheng Jizhou found himself in a trance, thinking that not turning this person into a zombie was the right decision.
If he really turned into a smelly zombie, although he would be able to stay by his side, he would never see this smile again.

Just thinking about it, even though nothing had happened yet, Cheng Jizhou already felt a sense of sadness.

Lin Hanchuan and Cheng Jizhou enjoyed a rare moment of peaceful tranquility in the post-apocalyptic world, while the imperial capital was in turmoil.

With the disclosure of the crystal nucleus space technology, Lin Hanchuan became a key national figure, especially after the people from Country A arrived.
He had become a national treasure.
If it weren’t for the lack of manpower in managing the ability users, the authorities would have wanted to build a castle specifically for Lin Hanchuan, making him the isolated Princess Rapunzel.

Just four hours after Lin Hanchuan disappeared, Lu Mao and Wei Zheng noticed his absence and reported it to the authorities immediately.

As professional experts came to investigate the clues, Lu Mao cursed with clenched teeth, “Damn, what bad luck the boss has.
The people he meets are getting worse and worse.
Rong Ziping is a hypocritical pseudo-saint, and now this person has kidnapped the boss.
Damn it…”

Wei Zheng furrowed his brows, his lips curled down, but he didn’t stop Lu Mao’s rant.

As they were Lin Hanchuan’s most trusted subordinates and the ones who discovered the case, the military took them away for investigation after inspecting the scene.

Lu Mao used to be just a petty thief and a hoodlum.
Previously, whenever he encountered important figures, Lin Hanchuan would always stand by his side to back him up.
Now, facing the big shots alone, he was trembling with fear.

After listening to the accounts of Lu Mao and Wei Zheng, the commanding officer’s face turned solemn.
“The main suspect is that foreigner?”

Lu Mao nodded, trembling with fear, and cursed in front of the commanding officer, “We saved his brother before, who knew he would turn out to be such an ungrateful scoundrel.”

Now, they regretted not kicking him out the moment he appeared, leading to the current situation.

“No name, no age, no identification information, and yet you kept him by your side,” the commanding officer took a deep breath, trying to suppress his blood pressure.

Lu Mao and Wei Zheng both lowered their heads.

Due to Lin Hanchuan’s attitude towards Cheng Jizhou, they subconsciously believed in their boss and trusted the sudden appearance of this person.
Even though they didn’t know his name, they would call him “Zhou Zhou’s Brother.” They didn’t notice anything amiss.

“The people from Country A have already arrived.
He’s very likely a spy from Country A.
The crystal nucleus space technology is a national treasure of our country and must not fall into foreign hands! Find Tu Ji at all costs!” The commanding officer pounded his fist on the table.
“Secretly monitor the movements of the people from Country A and suppress those families that are restless!”

In the past, in order to save more ordinary people and maintain peace in the post-apocalyptic world, the military had allowed those families to rise.
They were solely focused on accomplishing their tasks.
However, the commanding officer had changed his mind now.

“Secure the internal affairs first!” The commanding officer closed his eyes slowly.
If those families remained peaceful, it would be fine.
But if they became a problem…

The military tried to keep the information hidden, but each family had their own spies, and now they had a vague idea of the situation.
Everyone’s thoughts were inscrutable.
As for Rong’s Father, he was genuinely happy.

“The person who provided the crystal nucleus space technology is missing.” Rong’s Father poured himself a cup of hand-ground coffee but put it down after taking a sip, finding it bitter.
“Did you guys do it?”

The blue-eyed man sitting across from him calmly sipped his unsweetened coffee.
“It wasn’t us, but we wouldn’t mind joining in.”

Thinking about the crystal nucleus space technology, the blue-eyed man enthusiastically asked Rong’s Father, “You can really research the crystal nucleus space technology, right?”

“Of course,” Rong’s Father answered without hesitation, “We already have a plan.
Once we have a plan, everything else will proceed smoothly.”

“As long as you can provide the crystal nucleus space technology, Country A will help you gain more power in your country.
Compared to managing your family business, no one can match us from Country A,” the blue-eyed man said with a smile, his deep blue eyes resembling an endless sea without the vast embrace of the ocean, only revealing the greedy and lustful desires of a hungry wolf.

“Happy cooperation.”

“Happy cooperation.”

Rong’s Father raised his cup, and the two smiled at each other, each harboring their own calculations, yet seemingly harmonious.
