TL: Moonlit

This time, Lin Hanchuan was trapped in the bedroom.
The length of the iron chain was enough for him to reach the door, but he couldn’t get any further.

He lay on the bed all night, but couldn’t fall asleep.

[“Chuanchuan, that person is not the same as the one from the previous world,”] 001, like a small night lamp, floated in the air and advised earnestly, [“Quickly exchange for a weapon and run away.”]

Ever since Cheng Jizhou’s identity as the Zombie Emperor was revealed, 001 hadn’t liked him much.
It couldn’t sense the subtle similarity Lin Hanchuan mentioned and simply regarded Cheng Jizhou as a big boss.

Now that Cheng Jizhou had made a move against Lin Hanchuan, 001 was helplessly furious and said, [“You know, he has an antisocial personality disorder, incapable of feeling any emotions—family love, romantic love, or friendship.
He cannot form concrete concepts of these things.”]

[“He didn’t turn me into a zombie,”] Lin Hanchuan raised his arm, looking at the chain on his wrist, and said slowly, [“If he really has no emotions, why is he treating me so differently?”]

Even after examining the original text word by word, Lin Hanchuan could only find someone trying to kill the Zombie Queen, but there was no mention of the Zombie Emperor attacking humans.

He didn’t gather the zombies to attack human bases, nor did he help humans drive away zombies.
If it weren’t for his identity as the Zombie Emperor, he would have seemed more like a secluded big shot.

The only time Cheng Jizhou went all out to attack was when A Country sent diplomatic personnel to besiege him.
Cheng Jizhou slaughtered the visitors and nearly killed all of them, leaving only a few members of the original host’s team barely escaping.

All of A Country’s people without exception died in that battle.

[“Host!”] 001 gritted its teeth and called out.

Lin Hanchuan slowly closed his eyes and said, [“This time, I was too careless.
I’ll handle this.”]

After confirming Cheng Jizhou’s identity, Lin Hanchuan subconsciously treated him with the same attitude as in the previous worlds.
However, he forgot that Cheng Jizhou had no memories, and to him, Lin Hanchuan was just a stranger while he was the Zombie Emperor.

Lin Hanchuan knew he wouldn’t mind Cheng Jizhou’s identity, but Cheng Jizhou didn’t know that, so he didn’t know where to find this chain.

Upon reviewing his own actions, Lin Hanchuan also had a plan.
Even though things had come to this point, he still didn’t believe that Cheng Jizhou would harm him.

This confidence didn’t just come from his experiences in previous worlds; it also came from an inexplicable conviction in his heart.
He was certain that, no matter the circumstances, the other party wouldn’t harm him.

After sleeping soundly, he woke up the next day, and breakfast was already arranged on the bedside table.

Fresh fruits, slightly burnt sandwiches, a cup of hot milk, and two eggs… a very sumptuous breakfast in the post-apocalyptic world.
However, Lin Hanchuan didn’t even spare a glance; he shook the chain.

The next second, the sound reached outside the room, and Cheng Jizhou walked in, tilting his head arrogantly, “What are you going to do? I won’t unlock the chain for you.”

Lin Hanchuan was truly helpless this time.
Cheng Jizhou put on this unabashed look, but he stayed outside the door and didn’t dare to come in, making it unclear how he acquired such an awkward personality.

“I just wanted to ask, what are your plans after this?” Lin Hanchuan sipped his milk leisurely, his voice carrying the laziness of the morning.

Cheng Jizhou felt his dead heart skip a beat again.
He rubbed his ears, enduring the tingling sensation, and said, “I’m going to kill someone.”

The way he said the word ‘kill’ was so matter-of-fact, with a hint of loathing.
Lin Hanchuan paused for a moment before asking, “Who are you going to kill?”

This time, Cheng Jizhou remained silent for several tens of seconds before answering, “Arthur Lord.”

Lin Hanchuan pondered.
Arthur Lord was the leader of the team sent by A Country, the one who led the original host’s team to besiege the Zombie Emperor but was killed in return.

“What’s your relationship with him?” he asked on the surface, but thinking of Arthur’s blue eyes, Lin Hanchuan already had a faint premonition in his heart.

As expected, the next moment, Cheng Jizhou confirmed his guess, “He is genetically half my origin.”

Lin Hanchuan studied Cheng Jizhou’s expression and found that he didn’t feel ashamed or embarrassed about his intention to kill his biological father.
He still had that direct and straightforward look, with only a hint of disgust leaking from the corners of his eyes and eyebrows.

After contemplating for a while, Lin Hanchuan stood up and walked in front of Cheng Jizhou, softening his voice, “I don’t know what happened between you and him, but are you willing to tell me? I want to understand you better.”

Lin Hanchuan’s words were sincere and genuine, though slightly exaggerated in form.
001 flapped its paws, wanting to cover its possibly nonexistent ears.
[“You actually used the handsome guy plan! He’s the cold and heartless Zombie Emperor.
How could such a lowly scheme work on him!”]

“My mother is from Country C.
She immigrated to A Country through a talent introduction program and worked in the laboratory with Arthur Lord for a few years.
She was captivated by Arthur’s appearance…”

001: [“…”]

Caught off guard, it pretended that nothing had happened and floated in the air, listening to the story that wasn’t described in the original text.

As he recounted these past events, Cheng Jizhou showed no emotional fluctuations and spoke calmly.

Cheng Jizhou’s mother married Arthur Lord several years after immigrating to A Country.
It was only after their marriage that Cheng Jizhou was born.
Arthur gave him the name of A Country, and Cheng Jizhou’s mother also chose this name for him.

From a young age, Cheng Jizhou displayed extreme genius and indifference.
He had a striking appearance and extraordinary intelligence, making him the center of attention everywhere he went.
However, he had no friends and disdained ordinary interactions with those he considered “clumsy and foolish.” He only enjoyed reading the books collected by his parents.

Cheng Jizhou’s mother noticed something was off with him and took him for a check-up, only to find that he had an innate deficiency in empathic abilities and displayed certain antisocial personality disorder tendencies.
In order to help him experience human emotions, his mother left the research institute.
However, Arthur Lord believed that having weak empathic abilities was not a bad thing, and such individuals were better suited for experiments.

Cold, heartless, and unaffected by anything, coupled with his unmatched high intelligence, Arthur Lord brought Cheng Jizhou, who was in his teens, to the laboratory.

As he expected, Cheng Jizhou displayed astonishing talents.
In just a few years, he researched a viral vaccine that others might not achieve in decades.
During those years, Cheng Jizhou learned about human conduct from his mother and learned about viruses from Arthur Lord.

Three years ago, Cheng Jizhou used an unexplored virus to artificially synthesize a new type of virus.
By continuing his research in that direction, he weakened the virus to remove its lethal toxicity, turning it into a beneficial vaccine for humans.

But two years ago, Arthur Lord took away this virus and released it in a country that had international disputes with A Country.

“According to those politicians,” Cheng Jizhou spoke slowly, “since it’s a virus we developed, we can also develop the antidote and vaccine.
When the virus broke out, only A Country had the vaccine, so…”

That country tormented by the virus was completely controlled by A Country.

Such tactics were despicable, but the higher one climbed, the more willing they were to sacrifice everything for their interests.
This applied to businessmen as well as politicians.
Lin Hanchuan wasn’t surprised and noticed the unspoken part of Cheng Jizhou’s words, “What about your mother?”

“She’s dead.” Cheng Jizhou’s eyes had turned back to a clear sky blue, and his voice carried a hint of disappointment.
“The incubation period of this virus was too long, and it had extremely high infectivity.
It only broke out a year later, by which time most of the global population had been infected.”

“The responsibility was traced back to me.
After learning the news from Arthur Lord, she secretly took me and tried to escape to Country C to seek international asylum.
But before she could get there, we were caught by someone.”

“Arthur Lord knew that only I could develop the antidote, so he injected me with the latest version of the virus, locking me in the research institute for study.
However, instead of turning into a zombie, I became the Zombie Emperor, capable of controlling the zombies.
I used this ability to free myself from the institute.”

Cheng Jizhou spoke in a matter-of-fact tone, but Lin Hanchuan could imagine the difficulties and pain he went through.
What saddened Lin Hanchuan the most was that even when his own mother, who loved him deeply, died, Cheng Jizhou’s expression of grief was limited to what it was now.

Cheng Jizhou was still reminiscing about those details when he was suddenly pushed forward, falling into a warm embrace.

Lin Hanchuan hugged Cheng Jizhou tightly, their breaths intertwined, and neither of them said a word.

Lin Hanchuan’s heart ached, rendering him speechless.
He couldn’t imagine that the person he had been protecting so dearly had gone through so many hardships without his knowledge.
On the other hand, Cheng Jizhou was left speechless from surprise.

He thought that locking up Lin Hanchuan was already a huge mistake, a mistake even bigger than creating the virus.
He believed that Lin Hanchuan would never touch his head or smile at him again.

Yet, to his astonishment, Lin Hanchuan was now embracing him.

After hesitating for a few seconds, Cheng Jizhou slowly returned the embrace.
His cold body was enveloped by the warmth of the human embrace, just like when they used to sleep together, and their limbs would always be warmed by each other.

This surface warmth could easily be blown away like a gust of wind, but Cheng Jizhou had a feeling that his own body temperature had also become 36.5 degrees.

Zhou Zhou: Although I don’t know what happened, I can’t help but embrace him!
