TL: Moonlit

Under the relentless pressure from Country C, Country A reluctantly issued a public announcement to the world.

In the post-apocalyptic world, information spread differently than before.
Although Country A officially disclosed the facts, they covertly downplayed the matter.

When the people in Country C learned about it, they surprisingly weren’t shocked.

The scar-faced man sneered, “Given their shameless character, they are fully capable of doing such things.”

Lin Hanchuan looked at the news of Country A’s intention to execute Arthur Lord and his lips curved slightly.

Country A was worried that Arthur Lord might reveal secrets to Country C after knowing the truth.
They spent a large amount of resources to bring him back, but the moment he set foot on A’s soil, they immediately threw him into prison, waiting for his execution.

Before that, Arthur Lord had been arrogant and considered himself indispensable to Country A.
When he left, he even threatened Lin Hanchuan, saying he would make him pay.
However, he didn’t know that he had no future left.

How satisfying would his expression have been back then? Lin Hanchuan folded the news and carefully put it in his pocket, planning to show it to Cheng Jizhou later.

“Tomorrow, the zombie virus antidote will be unveiled.
Are you all prepared?” The leader asked calmly as he sipped his tea.

Upon hearing this, everyone immediately became spirited.
“We’re ready!”

After enduring the miserable apocalypse for over a year, they were tired of the wretched state of the world, the constant stench of corpses, and the precarious situations where comrades could die at any moment.
Now, the dark clouds that blocked the sunlight were finally dispersing, bringing warmth and a bright new future.

Lin Hanchuan thought for a moment, “When we announce the development of the zombie virus antidote, we can also help A country with their propaganda, letting their people know that the zombie virus originated from them…”

“That’s exactly what I had in mind.” The leader had been in high spirits in recent days.
He laughed heartily, and every wrinkle smoothed out as a gleam of light shone in his eyes.
“They secretly made their apology, so we’ll help them make it public.”

A country that commits such deeds must be nailed to the pillar of shame for all future generations to despise.

Lin Hanchuan nodded and exchanged a glance with the leader, each of them bearing a faint smile in their eyes.

The next day, when the announcement of the zombie virus antidote was made, Lin Hanchuan and Cheng Jizhou both wore masks as they blended into the crowd.
Everyone around them was dressed strangely, making them inconspicuous.

The one announcing the news was the bald woman.
After the Scar-faced man was promoted, he intended to groom the bald woman as his successor, so he entrusted such public appearances to her.

“Do you know how the apocalypse came about?” the bald woman asked as she stood in the center of the square.

The people who had received the notice to attend the speech were puzzled.
Some laughed and shouted in the crowd, “I heard it was an extraterrestrial virus brought by a meteorite from outer space.”

“I heard it was a prehistoric virus that thawed from a melting iceberg!”

“I also heard that it was artificially created…”

After a minute of silence, as the atmosphere among the crowd grew more enthusiastic, the bald woman continued, “The zombie virus was an artificially synthesized virus from Country A’s research facility.
They released it onto the battlefield but lost control of it, resulting in the virus spreading…”

Upon hearing the bald woman’s words, the crowd erupted in uproar.
The matter was too sensational, and everyone was half-believing and half-doubting it.

“How could anyone do such an inhumane thing…”

“If it’s Country A, it’s not entirely impossible.”

“Damn it, those bastards from Country A.
I wouldn’t mind if they messed with their own country, but they dragged the whole world into it…”

The bald woman gestured to the person beside her and hung up Country A’s self-proclaimed apology declaration.
The evidence was clear, and everyone couldn’t help but become furious.

Countless words converged into one classic national sentiment.

“F*** Country A, damn it!”

“Damn it, Country A!”

Because of their arrogance, the apocalypse swept the entire world, something that shouldn’t have happened.
No matter who they were, they couldn’t help but hate the original instigators of this disaster.

In the midst of the impassioned crowd, the bald woman raised her hand, silencing part of the voices.

Her usual carefree smile disappeared, replaced by a serious expression as she spoke sternly, “Since the apocalypse, we have endured too much suffering.
We lost our loved ones, partners, and friends, and our homes were destroyed.”

“But no disaster can crush the backbone of the people of Country C.
Not the famines, wars, plagues of the past, and not the current zombie virus.
Whenever the nation and the people are in peril, there will always be someone who stands up.”

“That person is me, it’s you, it’s each one of us.
Our efforts to survive in this apocalypse preserve the embers and hope of our country.
And now…”

As the bald woman spoke, she looked around, and her gaze lingered on Lin Hanchuan, who was wearing a mask and a disguise, for a few seconds before she loudly said, “We have finally developed the zombie virus antidote.”

After hearing this, the crowd, who had been filled with righteous indignation just moments ago, fell silent for a full few minutes.
The noisy square suddenly became quiet, and everyone controlled their breathing, afraid of mishearing.

“Mr.
Cheng Jizhou and Mr.
Tu Ji, the founders of the zombie virus, have worked tirelessly day and night and finally researched a feasible and effective antidote.
They have taken over the responsibility of their predecessors and become the ones leading us out of this predicament.”

As her words fell, the quiet square erupted with cheers.
Some were crying, some were laughing, some were passionately hugging strangers, and others were eagerly kissing their companions.

Everyone’s mind went blank, leaving only the most instinctive reactions.

The immense joy enveloped every individual, even Lin Hanchuan and Cheng Jizhou, who were separated from the crowd.
Strangers hugged them, and their shoulders were wet with the tears of unknown people.

Glancing at each other, Lin Hanchuan and Cheng Jizhou smiled at each other.

“The Founders of the Zombie Virus,” a title that was once despised in the original text, now became a respected honor.
Lin Hanchuan knew that no matter what, Cheng Jizhou would never again face the same situation as in the original world.

Cheng Jizhou, however, felt mixed emotions, entangled in a mess, unable to sort out the beginning and end.

At this moment, Cheng Jizhou suddenly understood why Lin Hanchuan had gone to such great lengths to prevent him from seeking revenge on Arthur Lord, why he wanted him to develop the zombie virus antidote…

To let himself stand in the sunlight, Lin Hanchuan had schemed tirelessly.

“Are you happy?” At some point, Lin Hanchuan had squeezed next to Cheng Jizhou and asked loudly.

Cheng Jizhou looked deeply into Lin Hanchuan’s eyes and nodded firmly, “I’m happy.”

The surging joy enveloped Cheng Jizhou as well, and he too tasted the sweetness of it all.

Finally breaking free from the crowd, Lin Hanchuan and Cheng Jizhou ran together through the lively crowd, and suddenly, they burst into laughter.

For over twenty years, this was the first time Lin Hanchuan had run with such abandon and laughed so carefree.
He couldn’t even remember what kind of life he had lived in the original world.

When they stopped, Cheng Jizhou smiled with crescent-shaped eyes, a pair of beautiful blue eyes full of affection as he said, “I’m truly happy.”

After saying that, without waiting for Lin Hanchuan to reply, he used both hands to pull down their masks and kissed him.

In the crowded square nearby, everyone was in high spirits, celebrating the hope of seeing the end of the apocalypse.
In this quiet alley, two people were kissing.

Lin Hanchuan was momentarily stunned, but then he took the lead, affectionately embracing Cheng Jizhou, casting everything aside.

When they finally emerged from the alley, they put their masks back on, but their hands were tightly clasped together.
They kept stealing glances at each other, locking eyes from time to time, only to quickly avert their gazes, the air filled with a sweet and thick atmosphere.

With a smile in his eyes, Lin Hanchuan held Cheng Jizhou’s hand, unconsciously touching the marks on his fingers with his fingertips, which made Cheng Jizhou’s face flush slightly, his gaze looking affectionate.

Gently glaring at Lin Hanchuan, Cheng Jizhou didn’t pull his hand away, and the corners of his mouth under the mask curved into a smile.
Even his eyes outside the mask were filled with a strong sense of happiness.

Unfortunately, someone who lacked perception broke the atmosphere between the two.
“Boss! Aren’t you going to see the end of your arch-nemesis?”

Lin Hanchuan and Cheng Jizhou made eye contact and saw the disdain in each other’s eyes toward the oblivious Lu Mao.
Neither of them let go of their hands.
Lin Hanchuan asked, “What arch-nemesis?”

“Isn’t it the Rong family?” Lu Mao scratched his head.
“As far as I know, they’re your only arch-nemesis… right?”

The Rong family.
Lin Hanchuan’s heart twitched slightly.

Country A has already surrendered and submitted, let alone the insignificant Rong family.
When Arthur Lord was taken away as a criminal, Mr.
Rong knew he was finished, and so was the Rong family.

In the following days, everyone was busy with internal struggles and the matter of the zombie virus antidote, so Mr.
Rong was temporarily detained.

Now that everything has settled, they finally have time to deal with the Rong family’s affairs.

“They colluded with the enemy and betrayed the country, conducted illegal human experiments, disregarded human lives, and their subordinates were involved in numerous deaths…” Lu Mao excitedly narrated, his eyes shining with delight.
“Especially the eldest son of the Rong family, he abducted innocent women and caused deaths through rape.
These are all undeniable facts.
In the apocalypse, it’s not a time of peace, so we should impose severe and strict punishments.”

Lin Hanchuan casually listened to Lu Mao’s words, leisurely walking hand in hand with Cheng Jizhou behind them.

“Now it’s really time for capital punishment; behead eight hundred times in the wooden stock.” Lu Mao gloated with a sinister smile.
He then added, “They also found out about the slander against you by the Rong family and included that in the charges.”

Although with Lin Hanchuan’s current reputation, no one would care about his past deeds, if something wasn’t done by him, he shouldn’t bear the stigma.
Therefore, this matter was made public.

After learning about this, the volunteers with crystal nuclei spaces from the People’s Volunteer Army, who had been helped by Lin Hanchuan, rushed to “have a conversation” with the young master of the Rong family and Mr.
Rong.
They were furious and one could only wonder about the current situation of the Rong family father and son.

Lu Mao, who seemed to worry on the surface but was actually smiling from ear to ear, suddenly slapped his head and exclaimed, “Oh, right! There’s that idiot, Rong Ziping.
He’s gone crazy.”
