Rattler-san’s Complaints

“Rattler-san, is something wrong? I can’t believe you came all this way.”

“Eh! Ah, no, no, there is no problem, don’t worry.
I just came here to take a break.”

A break?

This far?

I looked at him curiously, and he looked a little embarrassed.

Something might be wrong with him.

“Oh, is that so? Would you like some of this?”

I took one of the sweet and sour berries I had just harvested out of my bag.

I picked one that was ripe, so it should be very sweet and tasty.

But sometimes they weren’t quite right, which was a characteristic of these berries.

“Are these Prue berries?”

“Yes.
There are occasional misses, this one should probably be fine.”

“Haha, the miss ones are very sour, aren’t they?”

“Yes.
Have you ever had a hit?”

“Yes, I have.
When I put them in my mouth expecting them to be sweet, it is a big surprise.
I’ll have some.”

“Oh, I didn’t rinse it with water.”

“No, it’s okay.
Don’t worry, I’ll just wipe it off and eat it.”

Rattler-san quickly wipes the Prue off before putting them in his mouth.

I was nervous about what would happen if it was a miss.

But looking at his expression, it seems that he was fine.

I’m glad.

I would be sorry if it was a miss.

“It looks like they have ripened enough on the tree.
They are sweet and delicious.”

“I still have some.
Here you go.”

“Thank you.”

I took out three more Prue berries from my bag.

They all smell sweet and sour.

Watching him eat them makes me want one.

I quickly wipe one with a cloth and bite into it.

The sweet juice spreads in my mouth.

It’s delicious.

“This is a nice place.
Time passes slowly.”

Rattler-san looks at the sleeping Ciel and Sora and softly smiles.

Sora is sleeping on Ciel’s stomach.

It’s a sleeping position I often saw when we traveled.

“In the morning, some rather annoying guys came to see me~.
The leader and deputy leader were dealing with them, but they complained about every single thing, it was really depressing.”

He seems tired as he speaks with a small sigh.

The laid-back atmosphere that was there earlier has faded a bit, and the mood has turned somber.

“Thank you for your hard work.”

“It’s really nice here …I’ve managed to calm down now that Lord Foronda has arrived.
Sigh~”

Was it the nobles who caused the hassle?

They probably came to complain about the fact that they carried out the operation without talking to the nobles.

“They were of no use to us, but they’ll complain if we don’t talk to them.
If we tell the story, it will be leaked to the outside world.
Those bastards, they should think a little bit before they act!”

So blurted Leader-san when he and Borolda-san were talking about the operation.

Borolda-san only laughed bitterly.

“In general, if they had known about this time in advance, they would have escaped.
Those idiots.”

This has been complained about by some really useless nobles, apparently.

This time, it was possible that a much higher up aristocrat was involved.

If they were not willing to get involved, they should escape.

But if their actions alerted someone to the unusual situation, there was a chance that the operation would have failed.

…After all, it was probably the right decision to proceed in secret this time.

Well, there was no time to inform them.

“It’s a good thing that he turned pale when I mentioned the names of the nobles who are involved with the Lords of Foronda.”

Rattler-san seemed to be feeling refreshed as he spoke, and his mood lightened up.

Good.

He seems to have calmed down a bit.

“Oh right.
Tomorrow afternoon, we’re going to make a big move on the organization.”

Big move?

…Did it have anything to do with Count Faltoria?

“Did you find any evidence?”

“Yes, his name is all over the papers.
We also got some testimonies from the nobles that Lord Foronda talked to, and they have some proof.
Another merchant that Cival spoke to also had evidence.”

“I see.”

Count Faltoria was probably somewhere around the top of the organization.

If he’s caught, there’s a chance many people could get caught again.

“Tomorrow afternoon, the town will be in a state of shock, so be careful.”

“Is it going to be dangerous?”

“I’d like to think not, but he’s a popular guy, and we don’t know what will happen.
The neighborhood watch has been ordered to stand by.”

An aristocrat who is popular with the townspeople.

What would happen if it became known that he had betrayed the whole town?
