Ch50 – Let’s go again

Feng Ci fell asleep soon afterwards.

He felt as if his soul was floating within this world, light as a feather.
Traveling through the mountains and rivers and crossing the running waters, he finally stopped on top of a cliff.

Appearing on the cliff, Feng Ci realized that he was dreaming once again.

There’s probably no one who hates dreaming more in this world than Feng Ci.
Because every time he dreamt, nothing good happened.

It probably wouldn’t be any better this time either.

The skies above were covered by gloomy clouds.
Feng Ci stood on top of the cliff, the gale lifting the hem of his clothes and his hair.
His tall slender figure seemed somewhat frail as he stood there waiting quietly.
A moment later, a beam of light pierced through the clouds and landed in front of Feng Ci.

“Long time no see.” Feng Ci called out quietly: “Father.”

A tall and austere, but blurry figure appeared within the light.
Feng Ci felt a surge of violent energies approaching him head on.
Before he had time to evade, he was knocked back several hasty steps by the force and fell down on one knee.

A suffocating pressure fell over him simultaneously.

Feng Ci’s complexion instantly turned pale white.
Even his body started to tremble uncontrollably.

In fear.

An instinctive fear when facing the Heavenly Principles’ fury.

No one can maintain their principles in this kind of innate terror that’s deeply rooted in one’s blood.

One hand pressed against the center of his chest, Feng Ci silently took a few struggling breaths.
The Heavenly Principles’ voice leisurely spoke up between Heaven and earth: “Do you know your mistake?”

That voice was stern and solemn, without any sorrow or joy— emotions completely indiscernible.

“I don’t know.” It was quite terrifying to receive direct damage to the soul.
Feng Ci felt like even his heart ached dully under this suffocating pressure, which also made his voice somewhat quiet and hoarse: “I am only following Father’s instruction to eliminate all hidden dangers that might cause the destruction of the world.”

“—Lies.”

An even more aggressive spiritual pressure swept in.
Trembling, Feng Ci tasted the iron flavor of blood in his mouth.

“Son of Heaven, you cannot deceive me.” The Heavenly Principles lowered his head and focused his gaze on the young man kneeling beneath his feet: “You should know that the awakening of your physical body is also a part of my plan.”

“Plan?” Feng Ci chuckled: “Your plan is to have ‘me’ destroy the cultivation world with my own hands?”

He did his best to raise his head, voice hoarse: “If that’s the case, then why bother helping me in the first place!”

The spiritual pressure that oppressed his entire body abruptly dissipated.

Fresh air flowed into his lungs once again, Feng Ci gasped for breath loudly.
A warm light landed next to him and helped him stand up.

The Heavenly Principles stood in front of Feng Ci, one hand behind his back.
His figure floated in the air slightly, high and lofty.

“I have never assisted anyone.” The duty of the Heavenly Principles was to maintain order and stability within these tens of thousands of worlds.
The demonic(魔) clan’s invasion into the human world, however, had disrupted the equilibrium back then.
The negative consequences brought about by the demonic(魔) clan was the only existence that threatened the Heavenly Principles’ order and stability.

That’s why the Heavenly Principles had descended upon the world back then to help Feng Ci oppose the demonic(魔) clan.

Feng Ci squeezed his eyes shut and forced himself to calm down slightly: “Father, I don’t understand.”

He knew that, unless completely necessary, the Heavenly Principles wouldn’t interfere with the development of the human world.
Even when the demonic(魔) clan invaded back then, it was because of his desperate, countless prayers, that managed to convince the Heavenly Principles to descend.

But this time, the Heavenly Principles was actually controlling a puppet to slaughter freely within the human world.

Was there some reason that made this absolutely necessary?

“……Everything began with you.”

A white robed young man sat on a platform, six young men bowing towards him.

This was the scene of Feng Ci accepting his disciples.

“3000 years ago, you privately passed down the Art of Dao bestowed to you by the Heavenly Principles to mortals without sanction, resulting in the foundation of the Six Sects.” The Heavenly Principles’ voice sounded in all directions.

These six young men got up and walked off in different directions.
They created their own sects, subduing demons(妖) and eliminating evil(魔).

“The Six Sects survived for thousands of years, experiencing prosperity, decay, division, and unity.
Their descendants have spread all over the world and established their own individual sects, giving birth to countless new sects……”

Images after images flashed across in front of Feng Ci’s eyes.
Frowning, he vaguely guessed what the Heavenly Principles wanted to tell him.

The rapid development didn’t only bring prosperity, but also human greed, involving fighting and plundering that employed any means possible, unscrupulous.

He had already seen these things when he first returned to this world.

Sure enough, the images before his eyes transformed, changing into brutal and coldhearted fighting and looting.

But he knew that things weren’t this simple.

For hundreds and thousands of years, the human race has fought countless times for things.
Although Feng Ci didn’t like these unscrupulous battles, he has to admit that this has always been a law of the world.

If this didn’t exist, there’d be no survival of the fittest.
Dynasties would never change.

The Heavenly Principles definitely wouldn’t interfere because of this reason.

“……Human’s greed is limitless.
When you passed on the Art of Dao, you opened the gates of cultivation to the people of this world.
Furthermore, you successfully turned the key to this greed.”

The light in Feng Ci’s eyes flickered faintly.

The Heavenly Principles’ words were true.

3000 years ago, cultivators were scarce in this world because back then there was no systematic way of cultivating.
Those who obtained enlightenment and cultivation required both innate skills and good fortunes.

However, everything has changed since Feng Ci’s appearance.

He passed on the techniques that he learned from the Heavenly Principles to the people of the world and reduced the difficulty level of cultivation.
He made cultivation no longer a distant and unattainable legend.

That’s why right now, there were countless cultivation sects in the Central Plains.
Cultivators were as numerous as the hairs of an ox.

With more cultivators, came the greater consumption of spirit energy.

“Cultivators have been increasing more and more.
Everyone wants to use this heavenly power as their own.
To achieve their greed, humankind has recklessly plundered Spirit Deposits, cultivating in great numbers……” The watercolor images transformed into green wisps and dispersed once again.
The Heavenly Principles’ voice spoke slowly: “Do you know what will happen to this world if this continues?”

Feng Ci’s body was still falling unceasingly.
He closed his eyes and said quietly: “I don’t know.”

Splash—

His body abruptly dropped into a bottomless cold water pool.
That eye-piercing white light was completely blocked out by the surface of the water.
Feng Ci sank downward nonstop inside the darkness.
Everything around him was quiet and still.

—It was nothingness.

The reason why humankind, as well as immortals, demons, monsters, and deities, can cultivate and exist in this world was all thanks to the spirit energy of this world.

If this spirit energy were consumed completely, the only thing they’d face is…… extinction.

“One thousand years.” The tall figure shrouded in white mist appeared in front of Feng Ci.
He looked down at Feng Ci and said with a steady and unwavering voice: “Without interference, this world will face complete extinction in a thousand years.”

Not just the destruction of humankind, but the demise of the entire world.

Calculating it carefully, this catastrophe was indeed much more terrifying than the invasion of the demonic(魔) clan 3000 years ago.

The dark depths of the water was so quiet, not the slightest sound could be heard.
Feng Ci stood silently in place.
After a while, he finally said softly: “So… Father wants to stop the cultivation world from continuing to develop like this?”

“Not stop.
Control.” The Heavenly Principles replied, saying: “The cultivation world needs order.
Creating the Immortal Alliance was a very good idea, but unfortunately……”

Feng Ci abruptly looked up.

He had already felt it was strange previously.
Why would those cultivation sects scheduled to be slaughtered be able to temporarily escape disaster as long as they were willing to join the Immortal Alliance.
Why did his physical body awaken 300 year ago, but only now started the massacre of the cultivation sects.

After hearing this, he understood.

Because 300 years ago, Pei QianYue established the Immortal Alliance.

The Immortal Alliance was another possibility that the Heavenly Principles foresaw.

If the Immortal Alliance had developed successfully, the cultivation sects would have restored the previous order and controlled the extraction of spirit energy, as well as the recruitment of disciples.
Perhaps, it would have slowed down the arrival of the world-ending catastrophe.

Unfortunately, the anticipated outcome did not occur.

The hearts of the Six Sects weren’t unified.
After Pei QianYue’s arrival, not only did the various cultivation sects fail to unite, the open and covert struggles between the sects became even more uncontrollable due to their greed for Grandmaster QianQiu’s mystic texts.
The consumption of spirit energy did not decrease, but instead grew greater than ever.

Pei QianYue gave the Six Sects 300 years.
The Heavenly Principles also gave the cultivation world 300 years.

But the achieved result was unsatisfactory.

That’s why the Heavenly Principles dispatched his physical body at this time.

This karma was entirely the fruit of humankind’s own actions.

Feng Ci squeezed his eyes closed and then asked: “That list of names……”

“This world does not need so many cultivators.
The Will of Heavens has chosen a portion of the cultivation sects through random selection for elimination.”

Feng Ci felt incredulous: “Random selection?”

He and Pei QianYue investigated for so long.
Even though, later on he realized that it was the Heavenly Principles creating trouble, he still didn’t understand why those sects would suffer this disaster.

In these past six months, so many clans were completely annihilated and so many families were killed and ruined.

Yet the answer was actually…… random selection.

Sure enough, the Will of Heavens was heartless.

Like hearing some extremely ludicrous joke, Feng Ci lowered his head and finally started chuckling uncontrollably: “After so many years, you still have not changed at all.”

Not waiting for the Heavenly Principles to say something else, Feng Ci said first: “So what does Father wish me to do?”

“The spirit energy cultivated by those, who have been eliminated, comes from the Heaven and Earth.
Naturally, it should be returned to the Heaven and Earth.
This is what you need to do.”

“Returned to the Heaven and Earth……” Feng Ci said: “So that’s why I was chosen.”

Destroying cultivation sects through random selection can both eliminate cultivators and also act as a warning to others.
However, more importantly, the cultivator’s spiritual energy can be collected and returned to Heaven and Earth, replenishing the depleted spiritual resources.

This was killing many birds with one stone.

And in this world, only Feng Ci, the Son of Heavens, has a physical body with both the ability to slaughter all the cultivation sects, and the capacity to act as a vessel to hold the accumulation of such immense spirit energy absorption.

Not to mention, after absorbing too much spirit energy, it’s inevitable that the vessel will lose control of its spiritual powers.

That’s why the Heavenly Principles separated Feng Ci’s physical body from his soul.

“You need to eliminate him.” The Heavenly Principles instructed: “After he completes his mission, eliminate him and return all the absorbed spirit energy back to the Heaven and Earth.”

This was the true task that the Heavenly Principles summoned him back for.

Feng Ci didn’t reply.

The Heavenly Principles asked him: “You’re unwilling?”

“What Father means is that the physical body still has not completed his mission yet?” Feng Ci said: “Is it regarding the Immortal Alliance’s admission evaluation?”

In that list of names, any sect willing to join the Immortal Alliance was able to escape disaster.

This showed that the Heavenly Principles still approved of the Immortal Alliance and encouraged its existence.

But this also meant that those cultivation sects that fail to pass the Immortal Alliance’s admission evaluation in the future will still face destruction and extinction.

“Yes.”

Feng Ci: “But… a lot of people will die.”

There were over a dozen cultivation sects waiting to be assessed by the Immortal Alliance right now.
When the time comes, the casualties will be even greater than before.

But the Heavenly Principles only repeated: “You’re unwilling?”

Feng Ci stared at that big and tall figure in front of him and said coolly: “Why would I agree to something that involves the murder of innocents?”

“Is that so?” The Heavenly Principles’ voice was calm and cold: “Then the desire that’s plagued your mind bitterly in the last 3000 years, the wish that’s caused you excruciating misery and torment… Do you not want it anymore?”

Feng Ci froze.
All the colors on his face drained away instantly.

The figure of the Heavenly Principles disappeared into the void, only leaving behind that ancient and distant voice: “Obey the Will of the Heavens and you will obtain your wish.
Otherwise……”

Feng Ci opened his eyes.

The stars and bright moon still hung in the skies.
The bonfire beside him had long been extinguished, leaving behind only a lump of combusted ashes.

He laid in Pei QianYue’s arms.
As soon as he moved slightly, he found himself embraced tightly by Pei QianYue.

“Awake?” Pei QianYue’s voice was deep and languid, carrying a hint of sated satisfaction.

Feng Ci tilted his head and looked at him.
The contour of Pei QianYue’s profile was handsome and beautiful; there was even a faint smile on his face.
However, that smile gradually subsided under Feng Ci’s gaze.
Pei QianYue sensed something and asked: “Had another dream?”

“……was it the Heavenly Principles?” Pei QianYue’s voice became somewhat nervous: “What did he say to you?”

Feng Ci remained silent.

He suddenly flipped over and pressed Pei QianYue down beneath him, saying: “Let’s go again?”

Pei QianYue was stunned: “Master……”

“Shh.” Without waiting for him to say something else, Feng Ci lowered his head directly and kissed him on the mouth.

After a deep and lingering kiss, Feng Ci looked up.

His breathing was slightly rushed.
The rims of his eyes were somewhat reddened.
However, Feng Ci didn’t notice any of this.
He stared at Pei QianYue and said softly: “Let’s do it again, alright?”
