Yan Qing Chi had always been a straightforward, no-nonsense person.
Since he had decided to marry Jiang Mo Chen, he didn’t want to drag this matter out any further.
After dinner, Yan Qing Chi went to find Mother Yan and asked for Jiang Mo Chen’s contact information.

Yan Mother was still a little reluctant.
She asked tentatively, “Why don’t you take some more time to think about it, Xiao Chi?”

Yan Qing Chi smiled and replied, “It’s fine, I’ve already made my decision.”

He obtained the phone number and went to his own room, phone in hand.

When he called, Yan Qing Chi finally felt nervous.
He had never been in a relationship before in his past twenty-something years.
Now, one transmigration later, he had skipped the dating process and dived straight into marriage.
Yan Qing Chi felt that his own feelings about the matter were quite indescribable.
He consoled himself by saying things such as ‘since he (YQC) has to find someone to settle down with anyway, no matter which aspect you look at, Jiang Mo Chen could be considered as top-quality.
You couldn’t say that he (YQC) drew the short end of the stick’—just like that.

He was just thinking about this when the call went through.
A distinctly cold and slightly magnetic voice came from the phone, “Hello?”

Yan Qing Chi was taken off guard, but quickly regained his composure.
He replied calmly, “It’s me, Yan Qing Chi.”

That side seemed like they hadn’t expected it to be him.
They went silent for a moment before speaking again, “So it’s you.
Do you need anything?”

“Regarding the matter that you came to my house about, I agree.
We can discuss the details when we meet in person tomorrow, if possible?”

“Yes.”

“Good, then you decide the time and place.
Just text me the information once you’ve decided.”

“If you want, we can go with your preferences.” That side said considerately.

“It’s fine,” Yan Qing Chi laughed, “I’m not picky about these things.
I don’t have any work these next few days, so I’m flexible with any arrangement.
Check your time and work schedule, pick a time and place that will be convenient for you.”

“Alright.” That side replied.
“Then I’ll send it to you later.”

“Mn.” Yan Qing Chi hummed, “Then I won’t disrupt you any longer.
We’ll discuss it in more detail tomorrow.”

“Alright.”

As Yan Qing Chi hung up, he sat on the bed and let out a sigh.
“Fortunately, he seems to be a relatively reasonable person.”

Meanwhile, on the other side of the phone, Jiang Mo Chen looked at the picture on the computer screen.
His features were cold and impassive.
After a long time, he finally moved his mouse and closed the picture.
He leaned against the chair and slowly lowered his eyelids, hiding the complicated emotions swirling in his ink black eyes.

The next day when he woke up and washed up, Yan Qing Chi observed this face of his that he was stuck with but which still struck him as unfamiliar.
He mused to himself about how as expected of a star, he was really good-looking.
His features were like art, his lips red and his teeth pearly white, with a pair of peach blossom eyes that were slightly angled up.
He looked haughty yet enticing.
Yan Qing Chi felt that this face was really overly elegant and feminine; it wasn’t handsome nor cool enough.
At the same time, he also thought that having looks like this was already an advantage—he should be satisfied with what he had.1

He quickly finished washing up, made lunch for everyone under Yan Qing Xi‘s incredulous gaze, then began to head out.

“Are you going to meet up with Jiang Mo Chen?” Yan Qing Xi asked.

“Yeah.”

“You’re going to marry him?” Yan Qing Qi’s eyes widened in disbelief.

“Yeah.”

“Are you sure? The other person is a male, you know?”

Yan Qing Chi rapped her forehead lightly, “It’s legal now for same-sex couples to get married.
How are you still prejudiced against sexual orientation?”

“That’s not what I meant.” Yan Qing Xi explained, “I’m just afraid that you’ll regret it in the future.”

“Don’t worry, I know what I’m getting into.”

Yan Qing Xi still looked concerned.

Yan Qing Chi waved her away, “Alright, go eat your food.”

“Speaking of which, when did you learn how to cook?”

“I went on a show recently, so I learned a few dishes.”

“Bro, what’s the name of the show? I’ll go look it up.”

“It hasn’t aired yet.” Yan Qing Chi shook his head in laughter.
He called out “I’m leaving,” and turned to leave through the door.

The place they were meeting at wasn’t far.
Probably in consideration for him, Jiang Mo Chen chose a privately-owned restaurant that was very close to his house.
When Yan Qing Chi pushed open the door to the private room, he saw that Jiang Mo Chen had already arrived and was flipping through the menu at his seat.
Hearing the sound of the door opening, he raised his head to look over in his direction.

When their eyes met, both parties were taken aback.

Before he came, Yan Qing Chi had wondered what this fiancé of his would look like.
He guessed that he was most likely very good-looking.
After all, he (JMC) was a main character—and a celebrity—so his appearance shouldn’t be that bad.
However, when he saw the man for himself, Yan Qing Chi was still stunned.
He had met many people since childhood, including some very good-looking people.
They were either handsome, elegant, approachable, or extraordinary.
But in the moment that he saw Jiang Mo Chen, Yan Qing Chi’s breath was still taken away.

He seemed more like a noble man than the young film emperor in the book, sitting there with pride, unstained.
He behaved casually, but still carried an elegant air.
He looked at you gently but with a calm indifference, like the wind blowing in the dark night, leaving a pleasant fragrance in its wake without a trace.

Yan Qing Chi greeted him with a smile and a nod as he took a seat.

Jiang Mo Chen nodded his head slightly in acknowledgement.
He assessed Yan Qing Chi.
Though he appeared indifferent, he was actually secretly surprised that Yan Qing Chi was actually even more good-looking in person.

Jiang Mo Chen was the textbook example of a ‘Son of Heaven’.
His family background and environment were superior.
Moreover, he himself was excellent as well, so he would inevitably possess the same kind of arrogance that the rich had.
When he looked at others, he also unconsciously carried that arrogance.
The main reason why he was willing to marry Yan Qing Chi was because he wanted to curb his feelings so as to not have unnecessary notions about people whom he should not think about.
The rest was because Yan Qing Chi just so happened to appear at the right timing and fulfilled all his requirements.
Just when he wanted to curb his feelings, the Yan family that had a childhood engagement with him returned to X City.
Furthermore, the siblings were both good-looking enough—especially Yan Qing Chi.
Even though he was a man, he was more eye-catching and exquisite than his sister.

Jiang Mo Chen’s understanding of him was all from that photo and the files in a folder.
He didn’t mind having this good-looking fool who looked too exquisite and who didn’t use his brain—but still believed himself to be infallible—by his side.
He could be a lively “flower vase”.2 Jiang Mo Chen was just in this to curb his feelings and focus on more important matters.
He had never expected to pursue “true love” or whatever, so he compromised and had only two requirements for his marriage partner: 1) easy to control and 2) good-looking.

As long as he was easy to control, then he would obediently listen to Jiang Mo Chen and not cause any trouble.
And since it was not true love, Jiang Mo Chen didn’t care about any feelings, money, or the other party’s background or education.
Then, at least for his aesthetic appreciation, he wanted to find a partner with very good looks.
This wasn’t asking for too much.

And Yan Qing Chi satisfied those two requirements perfectly.
Although he was kind of dumb and kind of courting death, this kind of brainless person was easier to understand and control.

Yet now, as he observed the composed person sitting before him, he felt like the latter’s appearance was even more striking than from the picture.
Even if he didn’t say anything, didn’t do anything, and just sat there—he was still a sight for the eyes, one that others were unable to look away from.

Jiang Mo Chen was even more satisfied with this marriage.
With those looks, even if he (YQC) courted death and was kind of dumb—those could be forgiven.

“See if there’s anything that you want to eat,” he said warmly.

Footnotes

In the raws, it’s “却又觉得长成这样,已经很占优势了,还要什么自行车”.
It mentions a bicycle, which I assume is from the times when bicycles were a sign of status and improved living standards.
According to Baidu, it is essentially a phrase that means, “What else do you want?” It is telling others to be satisfied with what they have.
“flower vase” is slang for “just a pretty face”, it can be used for any gender.  While it is an acknowledgement of their visuals, it usually means that the individual has nothing more than their face.
They’re there for decoration.
Another English equivalent would probably be “a pin-up”.
Or I guess, in this case, like a “trophy wife”?
