Indeed, Chen Qianqing was going to rile him up this way.

He recalled the events that transpired the last time Ruan Wenhong showed up; since another opportunity to make him suffer had popped up, Chen Qianqing naturally couldn't waver.

Ruan Wenhong, “Chen Qianqing…are you serious?”

Chen Qianqing didn’t answer, but after a moment he let out a delighted laugh.
Ruan Wenhong realized that he was being messed with, however he didn’t get mad and merely said, “Give the phone to Lu Zhengfei, I have something to discuss with him.”

Chen Qianqing held the phone and turned his head to glance at the soundly asleep Lu Zhengfei.
“He has a fever.
He has just fallen asleep.”

Ruan Wenhong, “…” He didn’t want to misunderstand Chen Qianqing, but how could he not? What fever? Still sleeping? It was obvious that the youngster was perfectly fine just the day before!

As if Chen Qianqing could read Ruan Wenhong's thoughts, he spoke to clarify.
“When he got here yesterday, it was freezing.”

Ruan Wenhong got the gist of what had occurred and sighed.
“…Tell Lu Zhengfei that if he doesn’t hurry back home, I really won’t keep hiding him from his parents.”

Chen Qianqing hmmed.
“What else?”

Ruan Wenhong, “Chen Qianqing, if you don’t care for Lu Zhengfei don’t lead him on, okay?”

Because he and Chen Qianqing got along, he really felt that he was different from the other twenty-one year old university students.

Chen Qianqing laughed lightly.
“Ruan Wenhong, do you really think that if I didn’t compromise Lu Zhengfei would let me go?”

Ruan Wenhong frowned.

Chen Qianqing, “Well, you’re wrong.”

There wasn’t a single person who could understand Lu Zhengfei more than himself.

Ruan Wenhong, “I never intended to stick my nose in your business, Chen Qianqing.
But that idiot Lu Zhengfei, for your sake, wanted to come out of the closet back at home.
Do you realize how meaningful that is?” Although Ruan Wenhong wasn’t one to play around with boys, he knew that the number of people in their circle who did wasn’t low.
However, the majority were indeed just playing around without forming serious relationships.

Chen Qianqing, “Of course I do.
He’s stupid.”

Ruan Wenhong got tongue-tied.
Since he didn’t want to fight with Lu Zhengfei, he wouldn't lay a finger on Chen Qianqing; but at the same time, he didn’t want to give the latter an advantage.
Usually, Chen Qianqing didn’t know what to say.

Ruan Wenhong could do nothing but say, “Alright, I can’t beat you.
Remember to tell Lu Zhengfei that if he doesn’t head home now, he should forget about doing so ever again.”

Chen Qianqing listened to the phone beeping for a while.
He then put it away without any more fuss.

Ruan Wenhong wasn’t joking: unlike Chen Qianqing’s household, Lu Zhengfei’s had strict rules.
This was especially true around New Year’s.

On the first day of the year, when Lu Zhengfei’s parents would go sweep their ancestor’s graves and discover that their son had snuck back to the country for the sake of a boy, this matter would probably end with more than a simple scolding.

Chen Qianqing had something in mind.
Looking at the fitfully sleeping Lu Zhengfei, he slowly placed his index finger on the ice-cold tip of Lu Zhengfei’s nose – this was his young self.

Lu Zhengfei was sleeping deeply at that moment.
The IV drip had been put in at eight, and right now it was nine; if the flight was at ten, as long as they left now, they would never be late.

But Lu Zhengfei was still lying on the bed, therefore it was impossible for him to make it in time.

Chen Qianqing closed his eyes.
The memories of him coming out to his parents flashed in front of his eyes.
His father’s wrathful expression, his mother stopping her tears from falling, the feeling of a whip lashing his skin.

Chen Qianqing suddenly smiled, murmuring, “Lu Zhengfei…this is what you deserve.”

About twenty minutes to ten, Lu Zhengfei woke up, his expression a bit blank.
Similar to before, he looked flushed; but this time he was clear-headed.

Lu Zhengfei, “Chen Qianqing, what happened?”

Chen Qianqing glanced at the other, placing the congee he had just bought on the bedside table.
“You’re awake? Eat a little.”

Lu Zhengfei’s head still hurt.
When he finally propped himself up from the bed, he discovered that there was an IV drip stuck in his arm.
He asked, “What time is it?”

Chen Qianqing, “Nine thirty.”

Lu Zhengfei still appeared a bit unwell.
“I fainted?”

Chen Qianqing nodded, handing a spoon to Lu Zhengfei.
“Eat something first.”

Lu Zhengfei took the spoon and laboriously began eating the congee.

Chen Qianqing, “Your cousin Ruan Wenhong just called me.”

Lu Zhengfei could already somewhat guess what Ruan Wenhong had told him.
He sighed, “Did he instruct me to come back?”

Chen Qianqing, “Yes, but he also added that if you don’t head back, you should forget about doing it at all.”

Lu Zhengfei knew that Ruan Wenhong was angry.
From his cousin’s perspective, Lu Zhengfei, who had run off just for some man, was simply insane.

Lu Zhengfei hesitated for a moment, then he said, “Qianqing.
I will take the IV drip off, I still have things to tend to.”

Chen Qianqing, “It takes more than thirty minutes to reach the airport from here.”

Lu Zhengfei, “It's no problem, I’ll change my flight.”

Chen Qianqing silently stared at Lu Zhengfei.
“Was it worth it?”

Lu Zhengfei was momentarily stunned.
“What did you say?”

Chen Qianqing, “Traveling a long distance for just one person.
And because of that person, you spent a night in a hotel and even caught a fever; was it really worth it?”

Lu Zhengfei laughed.
“Qianqing, just seeing you was absolutely worth it.”

Lu Zhengfei had a brilliant smile on his face, yet Chen Qianqing felt it was unsightly.
If he hadn't been so stubborn when he was younger, wouldn’t everything be different?

Chen Qianqing didn’t stop Lu Zhengfei; rather, he called the doctor so that he could get rid of the IV.

Lu Zhengfei let Chen Qianqing help him to the entrance of the hospital.
Then, Chen Qianqing called a taxi with him and watched him get in.

Sitting in the taxi, Lu Zhengfei quickly beckoned to Chen Qianqing.
“Qianqing, come here for a moment, I have something to tell you.”

Chen Qianqing raised his eyebrows.

Just as he proceeded to lean forward, Lu Zhengfei embraced his neck and ruthlessly kissed him.

The sick Lu Zhengfei didn’t have much strength, so Chen Qianqing very quickly struggled free.
He looked at Lu Zhengfei, disappointed.
“You’re seeking death.”

Lu Zhengfei chuckled while coughing.
“I’m leaving first.”

Chen Qianqing slammed the taxi’s door shut, following it with his eyes as it gradually drove away.
He then breathed a sigh of relief, opened his umbrella and slowly headed back home.

However, Chen Qianqing felt a tightness in his chest choking him, and not even a couple steps later, an oncoming panic attack.

When he finally reached his house, Liu Huamei was playing mahjong with relatives.
Seeing Chen Qianqing, she called out, “Qianqing, you’re back?”

Chen Qianqing nodded.

Liu Huamei, “I made some chicken soup, go to the kitchen and have some.
The color of your face makes you look really unwell.”

Earlier that morning, Chen Qianqing felt good; now, he was a little dizzy.

“It’s fine, I just woke up too early today, I’ll go rest for a while.” After that, he returned to his bedroom and gently climbed on the bed.

Sleep is one of the most important things to be healthy, and Chen Qianqing hadn't been sleeping well ever since he returned home.
If he managed three hours of sleep a day, he was already lucky.
He had been able to send off Lu Zhengfei, but after that he started feeling unwell.

Chen Qianqing assessed his own forehead’s temperature; believing it to be alright, he unhurriedly took off his clothes and wrapped himself in his blanket.

Lu Zhengfei should have gotten to the airport by now, though he would definitely not make it in time for his ten o’clock flight.

Sure enough, not even a couple minutes later Chen Qianqing received a call.
Lu Zhengfei only said a few words, the gist of it being that he changed the ticket to depart at eleven o’clock; still, he was definitely going to be late.

Chen Qianqing could only reply absent-mindedly, fully in a daze.

He had no idea about whatever Lu Zhengfei had said towards the end: he listened and fell asleep to his voice, only to wake up near noon.

The phone call had lasted several minutes; Lu Zhengfei had hung up only when about to board the plane.

Hearing Liu Huamei knocking on the door, Chen Qianqing sat up, still dazedly wrapped in his blanket.

Liu Huamei, “Qianqing, come eat lunch.”

Chen Qianqing’s voice was a bit hoarse.
“Mom, I’m not hungry.
You guys should eat first.”

Liu Huamei, “How come you’re not hungry, you little rascal?”

Chen Qianqing didn’t want to move; he just talked to appease her.
“I’m really not hungry.
I’m not feeling very well, I want to sleep some more.”

Liu Huamei doted on her kids, so those words weakened her resolve.
“Then, come eat in a while.
How could you not, on New Year’s day?”

Chen Qianqing nodded, covering his head again with the blanket.

Liu Huamei’s footsteps echoed farther away.
Chen Qianqing stared at the snow-white ceiling, suddenly feeling a bit of vertigo that made him want to move even less.

However, he still couldn’t sleep, so he had to lie on the bed with his eyes closed for more than four hours.

In the afternoon, Chen Xiaohui knocked on Chen Qianqing’s door.
“Qianqing-ge, aunt is asking you to eat something.”

Due to earlier events, Chen Qianqing absolutely didn’t want to deal with Chen Xiaohui.
Hearing her voice, he felt even worse inside.
“Mh, I got it.”

Chen Xiaohui kept knocking.
“Qianqing-ge, are you really not eating? Aunt specifically made chicken soup for you.”

Chen Qianqing felt terribly vexed.
His temper was not good when he was young, it had only improved after his middle age.
Since he had been feeling sick from the start, hearing Chen Xiaohui’s continuous knocking made him flare up.

He got up and flung the door open, lifting Chen Xiaohui by the collar and coldly saying, “Get lost, or l'm kicking you out.”

Chen Xiaohui was scared; she would have never expected Chen Qianqing to be so rude.

Chen Qianqing, “Hm?”

Chen Xiaohui started crying.
“Qianqing-ge, why do you treat me like this?!”

A Chen Qianqing who feared Chen Xiaohui's cry wouldn't be Chen Qianqing.
He didn’t comment, only dragging her out the door.

Chen Xiaohui was just an eleven year old girl.
Although she didn’t get along with Chen Qianqing, she couldn't do anything about it.

So in the end, Chen Qianqing kicked Chen Xiaohui out.
The adults came later, noticing that they couldn’t open the door.

And Chen Qianqing could return to his warm blanket.
